A friend from Bangladesh told me they have a saying "to use a thorn to pick up a thorn" what does this mean?

I like this saying and it could be interpreted as employing your enemy's means or strategy in order to defeat him. Something akin to the Machiavellian maxim, "the end justifies the means."
