Are there any freeware programs like "Acronis true image home" that i could try on my other computer?

If you want to spend a little time learning how to use it, dd is the basic program most of these utilities use. It's part of Linux. Just download an Ubuntu image and burn it to a CD. (Once you learn dd, you can use ddrescue to recover a badly damaged drive.)
